King Gilgamesh
Mesopotamia actually had the first superhero story. It was about King Gilgamesh. King Gilgamesh was considered 2/3 god and 1/3 human. He ruled over the people of Babylon and soon became lazy with greed. The gods decided that Gilgamesh could not grow lazy or the kingdom would fall, so they created Enkidu to challenge him. Enkidu was a wild man and Gilgamesh was so caught up in trying to beat him he soon stopped oppressing the people. It was later both Enkidu and Gilgamesh realized none could win, and instead became friends. They went on many adventures and soon killed the Bull of Heaven. The Gods did not like this and decided they would kill either Gilgamesh or Enkidu. They chose Enkidu, and Gilgamesh was plagued with depression. Gilgamesh became obsessed with not dying but soon learned no one can escape death.
Marriage
In Mesopotamia once a girl reached the age of 12 years old she was eligible to get married. This fact somewhat disturbed me considering that would mean I could possibly have had a 1 year anniversary coming up.
Why We Have Time
Back in Mesopotamian days people didn't know how to tell time at all. they would just use night or day. Mesopotamian s actually figured out how to tell time by watching the moon, sun, and stars. They calculated time and succeeded as a society partly because of it.
